We embarked on a full back to stud renovation on a rundown 100-year-old villa that had seen better days. Bringing the house back to life and extending it to double its size was a daunting task for us having never done anything of this scale before.  Throughout the process Clayton Tutty have been our partners, making an effort to understand the end result that we wanted to achieve and providing valuable suggestions along the way. Their support gave us confidence throughout the build and an end result that exceeded all expectations.

The care and attention to detail that Sam and the Clayton Tutty team exhibited throughout the build saw that there were very few issues along the way and Sam’s thorough planning and project management skills meant that even during a global pandemic the project stayed on schedule and possibly more importantly, within the original estimate.

Having regular ‘cost to complete’ schedules helped us plan what the expected upcoming spend was and provided us with additional confidence that the project was on track and we weren’t going to get any nasty surprises.

Overall, Sam, Geoff and the team are a great bunch of people who are skilled at what they do, which makes them great to work with and we’ll certainly be contacting them again if we ever decide to take on another building project.

We engaged Clayton Tutty to undertake a major renovation on our family home, which is a c. 1910 villa located in a special character and historic heritage overlay zone.  The works included a full reconfiguration of the existing villa layout along with an extension to the rear and creation of a second floor within the existing roofline, along with extensive external works – all within strict heritage guidelines - to create a truly fantastic family home.

This was our second project managed by Sam and his team, which speaks for itself, and we were not disappointed.  Both Sam and Geoff are professional to a tee – they were excellent at communicating with us throughout the project, and were especially proactive in coming up with solutions for the inevitable ‘curve balls’ which working on a 100+ year old villa presents.  They also have an excellent team of experienced trades staff who were a pleasure to interact with on our visits to site.

For surety of cost and time we chose to go with a Fixed Price contract, which made the monthly payment process really simple, and meant that we were always able to monitor the budget with certainty.  This also meant that Sam and the team were in control of all the trades, planning and coordinating all details of the build and the programme, as well as interfacing seamlessly with our architect, interior designer and other direct suppliers.  This all resulted in less time spent and pressure on our part, and the project was delivered on time, within budget and with a high calibre of workmanship.

The Clayton Tutty team really provided a huge amount of value to our project and made the building process as stress-free as it could be.  As noted, we have worked with Sam and the team twice to date.  We would not hesitate to use them again and would happily recommend them to others, especially those with large or complex renovation plans.

The project was an architect's own home with a high degree of complexity in its architectural detailing. The site is small (urban 220sqm) with many constraints and construction elements including precast concrete panels and steel, and several cladding types.

I embarked on this project/renovation myself and was quite nervous about it, as it was quite a big project for me and it was my first time. Clayton and Tutty were absolutely amazing. A friend of my sister’s recommended them and could not rave enough about them. Now I know why as I am doing the same. I loved the whole build process and found it completely stress free and easy. Geoff was an amazing project manager and I could not have had nicer guys to work with on site. They gave me lots of sound advice and were extremely helpful when I was a bit unsure of what I should do.

We had weekly on site meetings clarifying what work was ongoing, about to start, what each party had to do and the time to accomplish it by, all minuted by Geoff and sent to me by email. As the build progressed there were forecasts of the future payments and what the estimate at the end would be. It enabled me to keep my finger on the pulse.

Sam kindly lent me his beer fridge to use when mine could not get through the door as scaffolding was erected outside. They all went that extra mile. Sam and Geoff have a fantastic team working with them, highly professional and lovely guys, and also a great group of subcontractors.

I can not speak highly enough of Clayton Tutty. My renovations were completed on time and on budget, and you don’t hear that very often. My house looks incredible and has retained its old character whilst being modernised. I love, love, love my house. Thank you Clayton Tutty.

We engaged Clayton Tutty Construction for the renovation of our Grey Lynn villa in 2016 – 2017.

Both directors - Sam and Geoff – stepped us through the build process and project managed the entire renovation. They worked with their team onsite every day. Their attention to detail, workmanship and project management skills were outstanding. This included weekly minuted meetings, ongoing budget estimates and liaising with and managing sub-contractors. This resulted in deadlines being met on time and on budget.

The skill sets of both Sam and Geoff complement their business. Sam was the lead builder with an eye for detail. He liaised with the architect to determine best practice and was the master at trouble shooting when an alternative method had to be used. Sam and Geoff were fantastic to work with. We were really happy with the building work, and they were excellent communicators. Right from the outset they were really clear about the different options that were available and outlining the pros/cons of each along with a recommendation.

Clayton Tutty recently completed a major renovation on our property including a new 63m2 extension and extensive internal alteration to the existing house. The works have converted our three bedroom one bathroom bungalow to a modern, four bedroom two bathroom house.
